During 14 years Williams, a history teacher and social studies Master from John Hopkins University, has been working in public schools in Maryland. At John F. Kennedy High School during the annual Champions for Children Awards Celebration, honoring excellence in education, he was named Teacher of the Year 2016-2017. Williams visited Chile in 2014 as a Fulbright Distinguished Award scholar, and spent a semester investigating how schools and communities tackled inequality in education and assisted to schools in Puente Alto, Santiago and in Temuco, a southern city with large indigenous population.

The Board of Education President, Michael Durso said Willliams “ inspires his students to challenge expectations and tackle obstacles to their success. He is an educator, role model and mentor”. Colleagues and parents say his teaching abilities demonstrate commitment to equity in education and promote student achievements and leadership. “I have never met a teacher more enthusiastic and determined to eliminate the achievement gap. It is his mission, heart and soul.. He makes a difference in the lives of students,”said Walter Johnson High School Principal, Jennifer Baker. That same spirit was present during his stay in Chile.
