They will focus on a variety of research themes during this academic exchange program.
During four months they will be part of this Fulbright program for academics who wish to enhance their research work under this Exchange program between Chilean and American universities. They were welcomed by the head of Fulbright Commission in Chile, Antonio Campaña, who introduced them to higher education in Chile.
1) Dr. Dan Dolan, from Washington State University, is a structural engineer who will work at de Faculty of Engineering al Universidad de Concepción and Universidad San Sebastian in the same southern city on his Project on Developing a prescriptive building code for social housing up to six stories.
2) In the biological and biomecial sciences, Dr Bill Kobertz, from University of Massachusetts, will work on fluorescent visualization of celular fluxes using chemical biology together with chilean and PhD Professor and Chairman of Physiology, Carlos B. Gonzalez.
3) Expert in astronomy and astrophysics, Dr Daniel Wang, from University of Massachusetts will work at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile with Associate Professor Dr. Jorge Cuadra at the Institute of Astrophysics.
4) Educator and expert in teacher training, Dr. Elizabeth Gilliland from University of Hawaii, Manoa will join efforts with Dean Carla Palma Flores at the Faculty of Humanities and Education in Universidad de Atacama around an ethnographic study of teacher candidates´ reflection writing in a second language.
5) Archeologist, Dr. Frances Hayashida, from University of New Mexico, an archeologyst, will deepen in studies around de pre-colombian copper rituals, economy and graduate training in arqueology, as a proposal for research and teaching. Director Valentina Figueroa and Research Director, Manuel Prieto, at the Instituto de Arqueología y Antropología of Universidad del Norte, will be her fellow hosts in Chile.
6) Biologist, Genevieve Kervor, from Bowdoin College, will do research on “damage induced immune cell migration in the olfactory sensory system of the zebrafish”, with Dr. Kathleen Whitlock, at the Valparaíso Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience.
