Nueva Canción: The Soundtrack of Chilean Exile in East Germany

Project Proposal:
In this project I will work with former Chilean exiles to East Germany in the 1970s living today in Santiago. I will investigate the role of the musical movement nueva canción and how it affected exile identity in the unique political climate behind the Iron Curtain and the ultimate return of these individuals to Chile in the 1980s. Through this work I will complete my doctoral dissertation and facilitate the development of life-long academic and artistic networks in Chile.
