Project Proposal:
Under the guidance of Carolina Aguilera at Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago, I will research social memory in Chile relating to their nation’s transition from Pinochet’s authoritarian regime to democracy. My project will run from March to November 2020. I will interview student activists, victims of the regime, and lawyers who prosecuted ex regime members for human rights abuses. I will transcribe a report explaining how Chileans have leveraged social memory to gain transitional justice.
