Optimizing Solar Farm Site Selection Using Remote Sensing Technology

Project Proposal:
Satellite imagery of Chile’s Atacama Desert can be analyzed in remote sensing software to select solar farm sites. This technology is not currently used in solar site selection but has the potential to encourage utility solar development by reducing costs and optimizing generation. I am proposing a project that explores the use of remote sensing for solar site selection in Chile, where policy aims to increase power generation from renewable sources and climate is ideal for solar power.
