US Student October 2019 Report from Natasha Reifenberg

I am moving forward with my interviews. I had a fruitful and encouraging meeting with the sole student member of the university-wide committee on sexual harassment policy for UC. She informed me she had used the white paper I had prepared on a human rights approach to developing sexual harassment policy in the Chilean university context which has been used as a guide for the committee. I am hoping to officially present to the committee and potentially attend the rest of their meetings to offer any helpful advice for the remainder or my time in Chile.

I plan to lead another workshop at Hogar Domingo Savio with the mothers whose children access services there. I am excited about how this project is developing and feel like the message that creativity is a capability rather than a gift is getting across. The final presentation will be in December. I reviewed my excel sheet to ensure a somewhat representative sample and found significant lacunas outside of the well-known universities. Thus far, snowball sampling has sufficed to find participants but I plan to hyper-target my search to universities that fall outside of my current purview. This week I will print flyers requesting participation in my interviews at universities like Santiago Central and Finnis Terra to ensure better representation of these universities.

I was so pleased to know that the paper I spent almost an entire week drafting hoping it would be of use to student activists and administrators has proved useful and informative in the high-level context aforementioned. This month was pleasantly productive. I feel like I am getting the project back on track and hopefully keeping up with my intended timeline. I so appreciate the office space provided by Fulbright. Because I am conducting interviews of such a sensitive nature. As for the pictures: They are from the workshop Muestra tu Piel on conscious storytelling at Fundacion Domingo Savio. And in Rio de Jainero, which I visited due to the hemispheric research conference. Fellow Fulbrighter Kelsey is featured there.
